Microsoft’s APS.net web based application framework is marketed and was developed by Microsoft to allow programmers to build dynamic websites, web services and applications using a Common Language Runtime. The benefit is that web developers can write ASP.net code and it will be supported by all .Net languages and using the ASP.net SOAP framework extension, it can also process SOAP messages. Typically ASP.net pages are the main building block for application development and typically contain static XHTML and markups that define the server-side User Controls and Web Controls that the developers use to place dynamic and static content on the webpage.

ASP.net is similar to other web based technology frameworks such as ASP, JSP and PHP but focused on using the code-behind model to deal with dynamic programming code, which places the required code in a separate file or a designated script tag. Web developers write the code to respond to different events such as a control being clicked or a page being loaded rather than a step by step guide through the web document. The performance of ASP.net aims to optimise by compiling server-side code on the webserver and only causes a short delay when the first page is requested from the webserver but won’t occur again. ASP.net typically runs on IIS6.0 servers but there are large benefits in running on IIS7.0 as modules maybe written in any language and has offers a number of improvements.
