In a time long ago, in a country far down under...The Lost Agency was started with an idea that things shouldn’t really be so hard to find! We built a brand around what we had, why start a company if you don’t practice what you preach from the start.

We focused on a catchy name that had all the domains available to protect our brand and worked from there. There was no point in having a company website that already had a number of competitors with similar domains or having to pay thousands to buy an existing website, we built our brand from the ground up.

We based the company about 5 main areas that we realised would prove the most useful to business and the least understood. So if you are interested in helping your business using online tools, and want honest feedback and useful advice contact us today!

Domain Extensions

Domain Extensions List

Our agency has generated this list of available domains that you can register. This list is useful to help you cut through the typical sales hype that a marketing or web hosting company offers around domains and what is suitable for your business.

You need to read this list to see what particular domain extension may ensure the success of your online business, if it is commercial, non-profit or informational. Also your IT department needs to be consulted to see if there are other domains that have already been registered and not currently being utilised or are any more domain purchases planned for purchase in the future.

An example would be a registered charity such as "redcross.com" and not protecting their brand by registering the "redcross.org" version.

This list is a fairly complete list of what domains are available to business, the typical users and if there are any restriction or issues for registering this domain. It also shows the approximate number of domains that have been registered to give you an idea of the competitive nature of securing a relevant and useful domain.

This list also helps provide a guidance as to the value, with .com at the top of the list and .info domains are typically the lowest in value and search engine trust. If you were looking to sell your existing domain or purchase a domain of an existing owner, you need to seek reliable companies to ensure that you don't get ripped off or taken for a ride.

This list outlines what restrictions people have to register a particular domain and also provides guidance if someone has registered a domain that they may not be eligible to hold such as a .org.au. We have tried to include as many statistics as possible to show the size of the market you are competing in for a good domain.

It maybe useful to spend a bit of time thinking about your business name, and what domain you will use to operate the business. If possible pick a domain that is not easily mispelt, misheard, violates copyright, or too similar to a competitor or competing site.

Don't try to be too smart with your domain, if you operate in Australia most people will assume that you have a .com or .com.au domain, and if you are really set on that domain examine .net.au as an option. If you operate in UK or NZ always ensure that you register the global version of your domain, as well as the local version.

From our experience it can be extremely expensive or impossible to try and get control of a domain if it has been legally registered by a third party. If you don't think to register a .com variant of your domain to save $20/year and then spend millions on marketing, thats a hard lesson in life that you need professional assistance with.

They are delegated to designated managers, who operate the ccTLDs according to local policies that are adapted to best meet the economic, cultural, linguistic, and legal circumstances of the country or territory involved. For more details, see the ccTLD web page on the IANA web site.

The right-most label in a domain name is referred to as its "top-level domain" (TLD). TLDs with two letters have been established for over 240 countries and external territories and are referred to as "country-code" TLDs or "ccTLDs". such as .de, .jp

TLDs with three or more characters are referred to as "generic" TLDs, or "gTLDs".

The responsibility for operating each TLD (including maintaining a registry of the domain names within the TLD) is delegated to a particular organization. These organizations are referred to as "registry operators" or "sponsors". Generally speaking, an unsponsored gTLD Registry operates under policies established by the global Internet community directly through the ICANN process. .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net, .org, and .pro are unsponsored TLDs.

A sponsored TLD is a specialized TLD that has a sponsor representing a specific community that is served by the TLD. The sponsor thus carries out delegated policy-formulation responsibilities over many matters concerning the TLD. .aero, .cat, .coop, .jobs, .mobi, .museum and .travel are sponsored TLDs.
