<p>SaferNet tested Google&#8217;s automated ad system and noticed that couldn&#8217;t tell the difference between a page dedicated to pedophilia and one with ordinary content. This presents major PR problems for most companies choosing to advertise in an area they dont understand and the main issue is that most of the content that they are run the ads next to are user generated content. The problem is that even if the content is not morally or illegal by nature, many users post content that is in violation of copyright laws and intellectual property laws.</p>
<p>There is still not a clear set of steps taken by advertising operators to ensure that search advertisements do not appear alongside content that is inappropriate or illegal in local markets. This presents problems when social users can be based anywhere in the world. In the USA the legal drinking age is 21, but in UK &amp; Australia it is 18 so having to double check age requirements for every market where a company advertises can be a time consuming process.</p>
